Grandparents Day 2022 In UK, USA India & Other Country

Three of my four grandparents passed away when my birth. It’s only as an adult, witnessing the bond that exists between my grandchildren and their grandparents that I am aware of what I didn’t get and the stressful time my parents must endured at that time, when they lost three parents, and dealing with an infant.

The world mourned (and was able to celebrate) the most well-known grandmother Her Her Majesty queen Elizabeth II. The eight grandchildren of the Queen (who loved calling her ‘Grannie’) showed their love and admiration for her by holding a the coffin in a vigil at Westminster Hall during the lying in state.

This weekend This weekend, the UK is celebrating all grandparents with the Grandparents’ Day celebration on October 2nd, Sunday. The day was first introduced to the UK by Age Concern in 2008, to honor our grandparents and give them the chance to be in the spotlight.

Grandparents are a key factor in giving the love and support families need both in good and in bad times. Many grandparents say that they have all the fun, and then get to give the children back at the at the end of the day.

However, it isn’t the case with everyone. Some parents are left to raise their children while others are forced to battle the courts to be able to see them.

What happens when a couple splits? They often play a crucial part in supporting children during separation of families, providing security and love for the family’s changing structure. However, things can get a bit complicated when the relationship between grandparents and parents has deteriorated and parents block grandparents from visiting their children.

Grandparents do not have an automatic right to request court permission to visit their grandchildren and typically, they’ll require the court’s approval to be able to do this. There’s no guarantee that visiting with an elderly relative is in the child’s best interest. The courts have recognized the crucial contribution grandparents play in the lives of children particularly for children in the early years However, they are cautious of bringing conflict into children’s lives when there is an actual conflict between the parent and grandparents.

However, there are actions you can take to ensure your relationships with your children and/or encourage improved relations for the future. When relations fall apart and it becomes difficult to spend time with your grandchildren, conversations with parents and children or mediation is the first step. Getting advice and support from organizations such as Families Lives or Kinship can be beneficial.

If the informal attempts fail and the family court fails to succeed, the court will be able to decide if having contacts with the grandparents’ are in the child’s best interest. Although there are legal requirements to follow however, the family court will acknowledge the importance of contact with grandparents for children and the important contribution grandparents can provide.

My kids are fortunate enough to have three wonderful grandparents in their lives. They enjoy the stories shared about the fourth Pops who gazes at them from the cloud of his presence.

Grandparents Day 2023 in the United States is on Sunday, September 10, a day to honor our grandparents and their support for our families and community.
